Racers
It's the first
day of winter and the days will start to get longer. We know you are thinking
about your vintage dirt bikes and where you plan to ride them next season.
We looked into
the possibility of having the VORF at a MX track about 10 minutes from Eric's.
We've had a Trials there before and Lucien used to run
a Hare Scrambles (Endurocross for modern bikes).
After much thought we decided to rest on our laurels after winning the Bar and
Hedy Hodgson Award through the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2016 and
putting on the super fun VORF 2017. Going to a track with a huge gravel parking
lot with only one island of grass, a canteen but no PAVILLION and no Mick &
Jill (the budget wouldn't stretch to Track rental and bringing over our
wonderful friends) would just not be the same.
We made some
good friends over nine years and we hope we'll cross paths with some of you
again. Ariel trials man John Hoffman has
managed to come up to some of our Quebec Series Vintage Trials and we encourage
you to do he same. You can find the schedule on
Eric's site www.epnat.ca. Linus Tucker
took home the Mick Andrews Trophy-Sportsman of the Year which was presented at
our Series final Trials and BBQ chicken banquet at Paul Hill's Mohawk Hills
Golf Course. We just might be the only club that has a Vintage Trials on a golf
course. Sand traps are fun to navigate!
We encourage
you to support events put on by Festival Friends Sasquatch Vintage Racing. You can ride your vintage wheels in the dirt
at AHRMA and ACR events.

Steve
and I are very sad to announce that there will be no VORF 2018.
Unfortunately
an anonymous complaint made about land use on the Pritchard farm has put a stop
to all motorcycle events on the property for now,
Eric
and Ariane are trying all they can to change this but the wheels of government
turn slowly and even if we got approval by the summer it would be too late to
start taking entries and getting Mick and Jill Andrews booked. We cannot make a
financial commitment now and then not get the government go ahead.
However,
I saw Eric yesterday and he is hopeful that VORF 2019 might be a possibility.
Keep your fingers crossed!
We
have enjoyed the past nine years of hanging out with our Festival Friends each
August. It was the racers and their families that made it worth the work. We
ended the weekends tired but smiling like everyone in the pits.
I
thanked people in my recap of VORF 2017 but I would like to mention again
Heather and Greg Collis and Sasquatch Vintage Racing. They have earned the
right to keep the Festival Friends Trophy (for now) and I urge you all to
attend their events in Ontario. Vintage Racers
can also look to AHRMA and Tom France's American Classic Racing to get their
"vintage racing fix". There are many great CVMG Trials clubs in
Ontario and the Northeast USA. Our Quebec Trials Series is starting its 30th
year (schedule will be found on Eric's site www.epnat.ca) Our Series closing event is even at a golf
course...Paul Hill's MOHAWK HILLS...a strange convergence of two types of
athletes!
I
know you all wish Eric and Ariane the best in their fight. Who knows...maybe we
could end up meeting again at VORF 2019.
In
the meantime, have fun with your vintage bikes and don't forget my voice
"ATTENTION IN THE PITS...ATTENTION IN THE PITS"
